FM-13: The Saw Or Gearcase Becomes Abnormally Hot Or Smells Hot Without Smoke Or Sparks
The housing, gearcase, battery interface, or motor area heats unusually fast or gives a hot mechanical/electrical odor, but there is no visible smoke, spark, melting, or liquid.
Diagnostic overview
The housing, gearcase, battery interface, or motor area heats unusually fast or gives a hot mechanical/electrical odor, but there is no visible smoke, spark, melting, or liquid.
Likely Root Causes
- Vents are blocked by sawdust or the saw is being forced
- Dull, dirty, wrong, or deeply set blade is overloading the motor
- Blade, guard, bearing, or gear drive is dragging
- Battery, motor, electronic module, bearing, or gearcase is failing
Quick Checks
- After correction, one controlled light cut produces normal temperature rise only, with free blade/guard movement and no hot odor.
Repair Preview
- Release the trigger, keep control until the blade stops and guard closes, remove the battery, and let the saw cool in a dry noncombustible area.
- - Inspect for smoke, sparks, melting, liquid, battery damage, or worsening odor - route those conditions immediately to FM-06 or FM-14.
- Clean the vents with dry air, correct blade depth and work support, and replace any dull, dirty, damaged, or wrong blade.
- With the battery removed, hand-turn the blade and check the lower guard for free motion without scrape or drag.
- - Use a known-good pack for one light supported scrap cut - if rapid heat or hot odor returns, stop and request authorized motor, electronic, bearing, and gea
