Symptoms

Battery repeatedly overheats or protection-stops during light use
Battery becomes unusually hot during an otherwise normal charge
Battery loses charge rapidly while stored disconnected
BATTERY SEATS BUT WILL NOT STAY LATCHED
BATTERY WILL NOT SLIDE FULLY INTO A COMPATIBLE TOOL OR CHARGER
Runtime is much shorter than a matched known-good battery
The battery latches normally and works while still, but charging or tool power stops, restarts, or flickers when the pack or receiver is gently moved.
The pack starts and runs a known-good compatible tool at no load, but output stops promptly during an ordinary matched task that a known-good battery completes.
The cool dry battery shell appears closed, but a new loose rattle, clunk or shifting movement is heard inside after a drop or impact, with no swelling, liquid, smoke, odor or heat.
A compatible charger continues to report its temperature-delay state after the battery has stabilized at room temperature and the charger works normally with another compatible battery.
The pack is fully seated, the release button is pressed, and the battery still cannot be slid out without excessive force.
The cool dry pack has a visibly cracked, missing, loose or distorted rail, release button, latch feature or molded support, whether or not insertion has been attempted.
With the pack removed and cool, one or more accessible power, signal or temperature contacts are visibly bent, pushed in, pitted, loose or corroded, with no active heat, smoke, liquid or melting.
A known-good compatible charger begins its normal charging cycle, but the cycle repeatedly stops, restarts, faults, or continues abnormally without reaching completion.
The battery reaches the normal seated position, but the release latch does not retain it and the pack can slide away without pressing the release button.
With the battery removed from every tool and charger, the charge-status button cannot be pressed normally, remains depressed or has broken away.
At room temperature in a proven compatible tool, the pack becomes unusually hot or repeatedly protection-stops during a light intermittent task that a known-good battery completes normally.
A proven compatible charger gives its normal full-charge indication, yet the removed battery shows little or no charge and can run a known-good low-load tool only briefly or not at all.
The pack is swollen, leaking or wet, smoking, sparking, melting, giving a strong burning or chemical odor, or dangerously hot during charging, use or storage.
At room temperature, the battery is fully seated in a powered known-good compatible charger, yet the charger never enters its normal charging state.
